About us
A rural centre with a town-level standard of care
Bukaya Medical Centre is a privately owned community health facility at Buhuru Trading Centre, Etenje Ward, Mumias West Sub-County.
Our story
The centre was started in 1998 to answer a simple problem: families in Etenje were travelling to Mumias for care that could be given safely much closer to home.
Today the facility runs outpatient, inpatient, antenatal, emergency and casualty services around the clock, every day, and refers onward to hospital where a case calls for it.

Our founder
“A happy, healthy growing child; relieved parents; and a satisfied me.”
Dr. Alfred G.M.L. Shiroya
Paediatrician
A mother who was a renowned herbal healer, and a bout of pneumonia at twelve treated by mission-hospital nuns, set Dr. Shiroya on the road to medicine.
